An alternative triad of that most moving triptych “O Caroline / Instant pussy / Signed curtain” which so brilliantly opens Matching Mole’s untitled first lp (CBS 1972), with Robert Wyatt writing and singing one of the most beautiful and (deceivingly) simple songs of heartbreak in history – ultimately meta. All off Esoteric’s “Matching Mole (Expanded Edition)” 2cd (ECLEC 22311, 2012) … Do rush out and buy it, if only for the long (lp) version of “O Caroline” or for the previously unreleased “Horse” (1972-01). Hey and more on Matching Mole in the previous post!
“O Tannenbaum” Wyatt’s way ;-) Recorded Summer 1981, released 1982-03 on “Nothing Can Stop Us” (Rough Trade) … Robert Wyatt also wrote the liner notes for a 1991 compilation of ‘7Ts piano pieces by Cornelius Cardew which featured “Red flag prelude” (197X). Hey and can someone please add Mr. Wyatt‘s interpretation to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O_Tannenbaum ?!? [Nope ain’t gonna do it myself.]
Babs M, with vocals by Bob W, off the “BM” cd (Monika Enterprise cat. no. 64, 2008-10-31): “Camouflage”.
