scandic funk experience

Also just out: Rickard Masip Presents Scandinavian Funk Experience– yet another super volume in Nascente’s “Funk Experience” series of budget v/a compilations. This time around, I only knew Doris beforehand … Do check the series’ pinnacle so far as well, viz.Kid Loco Presents French Funk Experience“! Highlights:

  • Claes-Göran Fagerstedt: “Stone free” (1975 / originally by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, 1966)
  • Bob Azzam: “Tricky soul” (1968)
  • Staffan Abeleen Quintet: “Mr Minor” (1974)
  • Tommy Seebach: “Bubble sex” (1979).

spacey svensk italo

Found it at long last – albeit the 2011 reprint: “Supercool” b/w “Percussion sundance” by Kash (Newlock 1981) … http://www.discogs.com/Kash-Supercool/release/933131

ring ring

1973-02-14 / 1973-03-26 and sounding very dated and cheesy … 2012-01 and the hard to find debut lp by Björn Benny & Agnetha Frida – aka Abba – has been reprinted: http://www.backtoblackvinyl.com/vinyl/ABBA-Ring_Ring.php Incidentally, the English version was co-authored by Neil Sedaka & Phil Cody: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_Ring_(song)

mah na mah na dat bip bippadotta

Piero Umiliani‘s classic track (1968), as made famous by David Mahna MacKay (in 1969 – more on him in the next post), Sesame Street (1969), Sesamstraße (?) and, last but not least, the Muppets (e.g. 1976) … Apparently, Jim Henson c.s. have recorded several versions, most of them by the character Bip Bippadotta … but Sandra Bullock did her part too – see http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Mahna_Mahna_(song) for more on all that!

fading yellow 10

Splendid series! “De l’autre côté du miroir” is the French title of “Through the looking-glass, and what Alice found there” (Lewis Carroll, 1871), incidentally. Volume 11 is on its way, btw.
