Hp_lovecraft_ii_1968Hp_lovecraft_2bHp_lovecraft_2aHp-lovecraft-promo

When in Chicago … Indeed, Ken Nordine has contributed to the second HP Lovecraft lp (1968, limited 2011-06 reprint via Subway, most recently on cd via Rev-Ola, in 2000 via a now deleted Collector’s Choice cd)! As for the source of the other tracks here (1957-1960) … I’ve added extra sleeves & an addendum to a previous Nordine post which you can access via http://uzine.posterous.com/kool-ken-nordine

ivor cutler’s colours are brighter

Media_httpcdn7staticc_weddf

The Ivor Cutler Trio off the Colours Are Brighter (Songs For Children And Grown Ups Too)v/a cd on Rough Trade (RTRADCD358, 2006-10-16). “All profits and artist royalties from this record are being donated to the Save the Children charity for their Rewrite the Future campaign.” Well, actually, “Mud” was first released on the Ludolp (Parlophone 1967, prod. George Martin) but a good cause deserves your attention anytime, no? Especially if it also features these fine tracks by Belle and Sebastian, and Jonathan Richman.

Ghostly

“Dead” versions by Carolyn Sullivan (1966), Cresa Watson (196?), Ede Robin (196?) & the Mark II (196?) were all released on Major Bill’s Charay label. Dana Gillespie’s cover version (1968) was issued on London, and reissued by Rev-Ola (2006).

Get thy bearings, parbleu! The 35 Years Bear Family v/a box set features 68 tracks about bears and the like (and a 208 page book), just to celebrate 35 years of Bear Family, one of the best reissue labels around … I’m sure they haven’t been a picnic year in, year out, so congratulations and enjoy the nuts and berries (but be careful with that honey)! (Don’t think these four paws and a tail are on the box set.)

a holiday letter from bojoura to the mops

Sadly, Bojoura‘s cover version of The letter(1974, originally by the Box Tops) is absent from Rev-Ola’s so-called compilation but in actual fact straight reissue (2010-03-29) ofNight Flight (Night Sight)(Polydor 1968), which isn’t even filled to the brim with 7″ only bonus tracks. (RevOla‘s website seems to suggest otherwise … Not including extra’s is a bit of a missed opportunity, imho.) Oh well, I guess we’ll have to hope for a reissue of Bojoura‘s second album The Beauty Of(CBS 1970) to get hold of her Box Tops cover. Meanwhile, here’s her 1967 version of the Bee GeesHoliday“, which we’d already featured in Astrud Gilberto’s version here … As for “The letter”, see also http://uzine.posterous.com/im-alex-chilton for the original + do give this excellent version by the Mops from Japan a listen too:
