Why this scatomological Bonzo Dog Band post? Well, on the occasion of “Music for Life“, a potlatch which our public broadcasters VRT are abandoning a tad too soon – see also http://snaporaz.posterous.com/potlatch-vs-the-prisoners-dilemma

2011-01-07: who’s got the funk, mia?
Can’t believe Stijn wasn’t nominated for the 2011 Mia‘s as funkiest of the year, alongside Brzzvll – though the latter got a well deserved nomination for their and Afreux‘s album artwork! Bit monomanic pop & rock, aren’t they, against the VRT’s mission? As if urban as a category is inimaginable in our de facto multicultural society. Oh well … Here’s two tracks off Stijn’s third “Ten Danz” (Mijn Label 2010) – “WUGDAI” has Andrew “Chi” Claes of Brzzvll on sax and “Weten” Fabergé of Dutch rappers de Jeugd van Tegenwoordig – ànd the 1972 original of a track which Brzzvll often cover live … by Archie Shepp.

happy eleven y’all !
Eleven! “Time zones” is one of thé utterly superior slices of cut ‘n’ paste radio taping montage ever. It’s off the “Escape From Noise” lp (SST 1987) by Negativland, thé masters at the media reappropriation craft. Ten years later, after the break i.e., their “Truth in advertising” single (Eerie Materials, 1997) would set another standard.

Just out: the 5th revised edition (Epo 2010-10-11, ISBN 9789090256832) of a must in every record collector’s library. Congratulations Arnold and great to see you still believe in printing books! And shame on you VRT for discontinuing his show (quo vadis public education) & for no longer broadcasting a covers & originals radio show! Meanwhile, here’s a cover to add to your database …

wicker man willow song
A rare instrumental version of the key track (off the Silva Screen site of yore) + a cover version from 1989, on Imaginary … I guess Alex Cox & BBC2 had screened Robin Hardy’s “The wicker man” (1973) a year (or two) earlier, and Britt Ekland’s dance must’ve caught the imagination … For a long time, we thought Trees were behind the soundtrack (and our old LaSalle ran great) … those were the days …
