Ho ho and a free Chilly Gonzales piano tune for Christmassnatch it via http://chillygonzales.com/2012/12/free-download-a-minor-christmas-medley/ – if only to remind us of Mr Jason Charles Beck’s excellent Piano Solo IIalbum, as released 2012-09 on Gentle Threat (GENTLE017CD). Written and performed at the piano by Chilly Gonzales, recorded and produced in Paris, France, and quite timeless.

wyatt’s way

O TannenbaumWyatt’s way ;-) Recorded Summer 1981, released 1982-03 on Nothing Can Stop Us(Rough Trade) … Robert Wyatt also wrote the liner notes for a 1991 compilation of ‘7Ts piano pieces by Cornelius Cardew which featured Red flag prelude(197X). Hey and can someone please add Mr. Wyatt‘s interpretation to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O_Tannenbaum ?!? [Nope ain’t gonna do it myself.]

christmas time (i.m. james brown)

Brand new James Brown 2cd Christmas compilation … expanding upon the 1995 budget cd … Yep, it’s a doggone acquired taste. Especially what with the godfather dying on X-mas day and all. In memoriam JB (1933-05-05 > 2006-12-25). Addendum: fyi Charly [uk] have just (2011-11) reissued Mr. Brown’s 1999 X-mas album.

beatles x-mas rex

The lighter side of Christmas: the Beatles and their proto nay plain psychedelic pantomimes … with the radio comedy & novelty talents of Sir George Henry Martin CBE strongly on display, obviously. Indeed, the Beatles had been impressed by Martin’s work with Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan, Peter Cook and other Goons before they’d even met, while on the day of their first meeting, the Liverpudlians’ jokes and comic wordplay actually charmed Martin into thinking that he should sign them to a contract for their wit alone.

a funky funky x-mas y’all

A 1970 monster from one of those very rare X-mas rex that’re actually okày nay great in their entirety: the v/a cd In The Christmas Groove (Original Stone Cold Soul, Funk And Rare Grooves From Christmas Past)(2009, Strut cat. no. STRUT052CD). The sleeve’s a pastiche of James Brown’s In The Jungle Groove2lp (1986), incidentally.
Yes indeed Strut is back, via !K7 … rebonjour Quinton!

& for those of you into the acquired taste of HC … check their yuletide melodrama at http://www.arawa.fm/2009/12/hot-chocolate.html or just go yo ho ho (tnx Baf) with:

#1: the back catalogue (aka ISSN 13773828)

[uzine] used to be a music e-zine between 1999 and 2006, run by a threesome and then some (from the mid to end nineties, it was a webzine called ultra – hence the u -, run by (kf) & (hs) a.o. ). The e-zine (now defunct, don’t dream of sending stuff for review) had about 3000 subscribers and even more dedicated readers. We did interviews and reviews and provided the playlists of our radio shows (expect those here later on as well) plus a lot of links, favelists, best of the year overviews, etc. … annexed is the the whole shebang in a 2,6 MB zip featuring txt files and a contents pdf …

Incidentally, everything here is “for demonstration & (internet) conversation purposes”. This here blog will not be making any media files downloadable; such are our settings on this here Posterous platform. If they are presented here, the purpose is to promote artists by providing tangible examples of their art & craft, and to have you, o dear readership, become equally enthusiastic about the art on display, perhaps even tempting you to purchase it legally. As the financial crisis of 2008 has shown, we’re living in a consumer society (and a services economy, and an attention economy, and a spectacle society), so everyone has to be aware of and do what it takes to keep the wheels going (without harming the planet). Also, it is our intent to always provide direct links to artist or label sites, and to the sources we got our information or data from … as well as other relevant and informative links, cf. this site’s subtitle. Conversely (vice versa, mutatis mutandis), we hope to be quoted whenever material of ours is used, including all stuff from the issues of [uzine] contained in this here zip containing our own writings. Do contact us if you have issues or questions …

Update: since the switch from Posterous to WordPress, it’s no longer possible to offer a zip. Here’s the contents table instead, and an example issue. When there’s time, we’ll make a separate blogpost of each e-zine.
