Ho ho and a free Chilly Gonzales piano tune for Christmas – snatch it via http://chillygonzales.com/2012/12/free-download-a-minor-christmas-medley/ – if only to remind us of Mr Jason Charles Beck’s excellent “Piano Solo II” album, as released 2012-09 on Gentle Threat (GENTLE017CD). Written and performed at the piano by Chilly Gonzales, recorded and produced in Paris, France, and quite timeless.

wyatt’s way
“O Tannenbaum” Wyatt’s way ;-) Recorded Summer 1981, released 1982-03 on “Nothing Can Stop Us” (Rough Trade) … Robert Wyatt also wrote the liner notes for a 1991 compilation of ‘7Ts piano pieces by Cornelius Cardew which featured “Red flag prelude” (197X). Hey and can someone please add Mr. Wyatt‘s interpretation to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O_Tannenbaum ?!? [Nope ain’t gonna do it myself.]

christmas time (i.m. james brown)
Brand new James Brown 2cd Christmas compilation … expanding upon the 1995 budget cd … Yep, it’s a doggone acquired taste. Especially what with the godfather dying on X-mas day and all. In memoriam JB (1933-05-05 > 2006-12-25). Addendum: fyi Charly [uk] have just (2011-11) reissued Mr. Brown’s 1999 X-mas album.

beatles x-mas rex
The lighter side of Christmas: the Beatles and their proto nay plain psychedelic pantomimes … with the radio comedy & novelty talents of Sir George Henry Martin CBE strongly on display, obviously. Indeed, the Beatles had been impressed by Martin’s work with Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan, Peter Cook and other Goons before they’d even met, while on the day of their first meeting, the Liverpudlians’ jokes and comic wordplay actually charmed Martin into thinking that he should sign them to a contract for their wit alone.

a funky funky x-mas y’all
A 1970 monster from one of those very rare X-mas rex that’re actually okày nay great in their entirety: the v/a cd “In The Christmas Groove (Original Stone Cold Soul, Funk And Rare Grooves From Christmas Past)” (2009, Strut cat. no. STRUT052CD). The sleeve’s a pastiche of James Brown’s “In The Jungle Groove” 2lp (1986), incidentally.
