Just out: the 5th revised edition (Epo 2010-10-11, ISBN 9789090256832) of a must in every record collector’s library. Congratulations Arnold and great to see you still believe in printing books! And shame on you VRT for discontinuing his show (quo vadis public education) & for no longer broadcasting a covers & originals radio show! Meanwhile, here’s a cover to add to your database …

… what with the A-Musik tag and all, I was very curious for these, but of course, this general overview does not cover the NDW era as extensively as, say, the “Berlin Super 80” v/a 2lp / cd+dvd+book; on the other hand, it does offer more historic background
Incidentally, referring to the same NDW period but also including the rest of Germany, do check the v/a “New Deutsch” cd / 2lp, “Teutonik Disaster” cd + cd and “Verschwende Deine Jugend” 2cd compilations as well … click the links word per word & see my earlier reviews of those records via the archive below > U0307 + U0312 + U0319 + U0502.
Nota bene: the playlists are merely intended as an illustration (not a compilation), as the whole Berlin Sampler site is only an extension of the book, not really a site in its own right … Mes excuses for any initial misgivings about that and hats off to editor Guillaume for pointing it out. (I’ve edited this blogpost since his comments below.) Guess I’ll have to find that ISBN 9782918002062 by Théo Lessour now … or just start by this excerpt: http://berlin-sampler.fr/avantproposetpremierepartie.pdf (- kinda reminded me of http://www.therestisnoise.com/ -); there’s also a link to the back cover via http://gazette.lecomptoirdiff.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=968&Itemid=28
& as I’m just starting this blog … do note that maybe I’ll be relocating this post elsewhere later on … I’m still experimenting with the format(s) … I’ve started out looking for the ideal place to post playlists, audio interviews, pdf’s of old e-zines … maybe on Posterous, maybe in WordPress, probably not via Blogger, certainly not via MySpace … and haven’t made up my mind about tweetin’ either! Did go for the autopost to Facebook option, though: http://www.facebook.com/pages/uzine-blog/216710133861 … until the autopost feature got too much bugs, that is.
+ will often do linkdumps without too much explanation – up to you to jump to associations similarly :-)
[Incidentally: in my convention for the e-zine that was and for this blog as it’s developing, in album titles, each word gets a capital, whereas in song titles only the first word and proper names ; band names are something inbetween, e.g. Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, hence e.g. the JB’s.]

[uzine] used to be a music e-zine between 1999 and 2006, run by a threesome and then some (from the mid to end nineties, it was a webzine called ultra – hence the u -, run by (kf) & (hs) a.o. ). The e-zine (now defunct, don’t dream of sending stuff for review) had about 3000 subscribers and even more dedicated readers. We did interviews and reviews and provided the playlists of our radio shows (expect those here later on as well) plus a lot of links, favelists, best of the year overviews, etc. … annexed is the the whole shebang in a 2,6 MB zip featuring txt files and a contents pdf …
Incidentally, everything here is “for demonstration & (internet) conversation purposes”. This here blog will not be making any media files downloadable; such are our settings on this here Posterous platform. If they are presented here, the purpose is to promote artists by providing tangible examples of their art & craft, and to have you, o dear readership, become equally enthusiastic about the art on display, perhaps even tempting you to purchase it legally. As the financial crisis of 2008 has shown, we’re living in a consumer society (and a services economy, and an attention economy, and a spectacle society), so everyone has to be aware of and do what it takes to keep the wheels going (without harming the planet). Also, it is our intent to always provide direct links to artist or label sites, and to the sources we got our information or data from … as well as other relevant and informative links, cf. this site’s subtitle. Conversely (vice versa, mutatis mutandis), we hope to be quoted whenever material of ours is used, including all stuff from the issues of [uzine] contained in this here zip containing our own writings. Do contact us if you have issues or questions …
& feel free to become a fan of this Fb page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/uzine-blog/216710133861
Update: since the switch from Posterous to WordPress, it’s no longer possible to offer a zip. Here’s the contents table instead, and an example issue. When there’s time, we’ll make a separate blogpost of each e-zine.
