akkerman ’68

Jan Akkerman in 1968 – before the storm … His solo debut “Talent For Sale” (Imperial 1968) has been reissued by Esoteric (ECLEC 2309, 2012-01) with a well documented 16 page booklet … but without Hunters bonus tracks, sadly. The lp counts eleven tracks, two of which are originals, most notably “Revival of the cat”. The two covers of Booker T & the MG’s originals are the highlights: Slim Jenkins’ place(sic, 1967) and Green onions(1962). Akkerman also covers Bobbie Gentry’s Ode to Billie Joe(sic) of which Booker T & the MG’s have recorded a most sophisticated (instrumental) version – see http://uzine.posterous.com/goin-crazy-over-booker-t
