I.M. CarltonKingColeman (1932-01-20 – 2010-09-11), who recorded his most important work between 1958 and 1967, cf. the “It’s Dance Time!” compilation cd/lp on Norton (CED 298, 2002). Ironically, his biggest hit was (Do the) Mashed Potatoes, recorded in 1959 by James Brown and his band, with Coleman on (overdubbed) lead vocals, and released in 1960 under the Nat Kendricks and the Swans guise as a result of Brown’s falling out with Syd Nathan at King
